PS Partners

Performing Songwriter isn’t just a magazine. What we are is an organization of people who are passionate about music, and we’ve spent the last 13 years developing real relationships with companies, organizations and individuals who are every bit as passionate as we are. And, most importantly, they’re our friends.

Below are a some of the partnerships that Performing Songwriter enjoys, and new ones are developing every day. We all want to support music and those who make it, and by joining together we can do so much more.

Artist Monitor
We teamed up with the founders of this company (then Media Guide) over a year ago and they provide us with the information for our weekly PS Radio Chart. It’s a terrific company that enables artists to track their own airplay on over 2,500 radio stations across the U.S.
ASCAP
ASCAP has been one of our biggest supporters from the very beginning, not only as a committed advertiser, but as a company filled with individuals who believe in Performing Songwriter and what we do—in particular our dear friend Brendan Okrent who was the first person to make contact with us back in ’94, and Marilyn Bergman whose support is appreciated far beyond words. We’ve worked on more projects together over the years than we could possibly name, and look forward to all the fun things to come!
Bluebird Café
Amy Kurland, the founder of Nashville’s Bluebird Café, is one of the most important people in the story of Performing Songwriter. She jumped in and helped make sure the magazine didn’t fail in the early days with her undying support and friendship, provided us with the perfect venue to celebrate our anniversary with shows, and the dedication that she’s shown songwriters for over 25 years is a constant inspiration. It’s nice to have someone believe in you that much!
BMI
One of our first advertisers to jump onboard in the third issue of Performing Songwriter, we’ve enjoyed some of our deepest relationships with the staff at BMI. In addition to providing coverage for their writers, we’ve also worked over the past 13 years years on showcases together, concerts at the Bluebird, the Kauai Music Festival, and countless other events.
East Coast Music Association
The ECMA is a regional collaboration of people in the music industry of Atlantic Canada, and they foster and promote their music makers on a local and global level. Performing Songwriter teamed up with the fine folks from there a couple of years ago, and we’re the only American media who has been invited over the past two years to their conference and award show in Nova Scotia. Performing Songwriter is able to help make sure their Canadian artists are heard.
M-Audio
Performing Songwriter has developed a great relationship with the folks at M-Audio, and one of the more recent partnerships involves a subscription to people who purchase an M-Audio product.
Martin Guitar
Lydia met Chris Martin in 1993 at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. She had just launched the first issue of the magazine and Chris signed up on the spot to support us with a contract for the back cover. And after over 90 issues Martin is still there, unwavering in their support, and the relationships we’ve enjoyed over the years with everyone there have been a highlight for us.
Oasis CD Manufacturing
Somehow or another Micah Solomon found out about Performing Songwriter and became our very first advertiser—sight unseen, in the very first issue. As a matter of fact Oasis was the only advertiser in that issue, and one of only three in the second issue. Micah has been such a constant supporter of ours, and hasn’t missed being present in a single issue. Now Oasis has its home right across from the Note From the Editor in every issue. Now that’s loyalty!
The Recording Academy
Performing Songwriter and our great friends at the Recording Academy are always finding excuses to get together and brainstorm on ways to mutually support the music community, the MusiCares program, and their Producers & Engineers wing. Also, Daryl Friedman, the VP of Advocacy & Governement Relations, is one of our editorial contributors.
SESAC
Some of our favorite friends in the world are at SESAC, and we have such fun getting together to come up with creative ways to make sure their writers are heard. In addition to supporting us for over a decade with advertising, we also have done showcases together and we work with them on a subscription program. Oh, and they throw the best parties in the world…
MMPA (Music Magazine Publishers Assn.)
Lydia Hutchinson is currently serving as president of this membership organization for publishers of music magazines. The primary purposes are to encourage positive perceptions and acceptance of musician-oriented magazines and to faciliate distribution of the member magazines in music retail outlets. At present there are over 35 member magazines.
Music Resource Group
Abby White is a judge for the Independent Music Awards, and Performing Songwriter is going to be working with MRG on several projects in the future. They are also a partner in providing the listing information for our Destination Anywhere series of hometown music scenes.

NAMM
President and CEO Joe Lamond has been a reader and supporter of Performing Songwriter for years, simply because he loves music and believes in the power of it. As a matter of fact that’s what NAMM is all about. And we’re working together to develop future programs that will help develop and support more music makers in this world.
